Lightning bolts, stars, borders, dots, etc...

Can we get a FAQ entry for the inevitable "What does all that stuff mean"? :)

I will have to get that updated now that we don't have round avatars, but that will get you started.

I think this fits here best.

As far as I can see our version of XenForo does not allow the use of GIFs as an avatar.
Am I right by saying this?

I think you can use a .gif file for a still image, but if you mean an animated one, that's not supported.

A user asked to make his avatar move again.
A .gif file is uploaded as an avatar but does not move anymore.
So the last part of your answer was helpful.

I found animated avatars under vB a great source of annoyance and a waste of resources, so from my point of view I hope they stay unsupported.

On SkyscraperCity we had a lot of customized animated smilies along with animated avatars if I remember it right for the latter.
Our animated smilies are something like a sanctuary for a lot of users.
So they were brought back by listing them in a specific thread because XenForo's default smilies are not able to fulfil the purposes of our old ones.

I wouldn't worry about this. Out of 25,000 daily active users, there are like 10 members, always the same ones, who enjoy to be vocal about such issues. Actually that 'old smilies' thread you refer to only has 2 participants in it.

As for the animated avatars, I'm happy to see those eyesores gone.
