When doing a search I find Thread Titles that have been sent to wasteland showing up in the listing I see, I don't remember this happening under the old vB (correct me if I'm wrong please), hopefully these are not showing in searches that ordinary members are doing, even though they would not be able to view the thread itself.
Wasteland has always been a bone of contention for me, if I have sent a thread to wasteland it has been for a very good reason, sure sometimes (rare though) it is to store a thread completely out of view but mostly because we want it gone, we have never been able to delete threads from wasteland but I now think it is time we should, on our site I am the lead Admin who attained rites over and above the others years ago for many good reasons, I believe whoever is in that type of role should be able to clear unwanted threads from Wasteland as well, considering some of ours go back to 2004 when the forum first started. Thoughts?

Ours is the "Graveyard" and under vB only Admin / Mods had access to it. Because of the restriction, members had no access at all and this included searches. But this being said, during our change over a lot of our secret underground forums were exposed and forums that were restricted to members were left open. As I no longer have access to these permission levels, I am unable to verify if members have access to what?!?

Ours was (maybe still is) exactly the same, it is just that when I do a search, threads in wasteland show and I'm not sure who can see the titles now???????

Were you ever able to delete threads from Wasteland (Graveyard)? if not, would you like to be able to?

Wait...Why did a site go live without a sandbox period of testing to be sure things like staff only areas being exposed to regular users wasn't happening?

We do live fixes on permissions and section updates once the site goes live that QA or other teams might have missed.

We have over 30+ people touching the site from start to finish and some of them on the remote premigration or production migration teams are not as familiar with the intricacy of each community as the Community Management team is. At the rate of 2-4 sites a day there is not much time/room for "sandbox" sites, also note some of the above sites were very done early on and we have since ironed out the migration bugs.

If those sections are in the mod area they might show for you as a logged-in Mod/Admin however if you are logged out or logged in as a registered user you should be unable to see them.

Yep - the Sh!t hit the fan that day !
Approx 336 sites migrated to date this year, it has been interesting on a few.

Thank you for helping us keep it under control.

Yup, you can always set up another registered user account with another email address for testing permissions/access.

Yep that's how I check it - If I see them in my searches, I'll log off and see if they are still there. 9 times out of 10 there not there or I'll use my Wife's Log-on to check.

I appreciate that concept and what I would have expected, but my main point is it is annoying for threads sent to wasteland to show up in our searches, hence the second part of my original question which got lost in the conversation, I would like for Admins to have the ability to delete threads from wasteland or whatever each forum calls it so the annoying ones with similat names don't show in 'our' searches, as said in OP the vast majority of threads sent to wasteland were sent there for a very good reason, because they were rubbish or no longer relevant.
Does anyone remember if threads sent to 'wasteland' showed up in searches by Admind/Mods under vB?

Looks like they are asking to omit forum sections from search. Most sites have "trash bins" that they move content into since the site staff have access to these sections it will always show up in search, they would like it not too.
Did I get that right @Ross Wittig

Thoughts?

Yes, to a certain extent, while recently doing a search I came across old threads which had similar titles and were no longer relevant, so I sent them to our 'Wasteland', when doing another search later the damned things came up again which was quite annoying, I understand that some threads can be stored in wasteland (have done it myself) so showing in a search could be quite handy at times, that is why I would like to be able to delete outdated or rubbish threads from 'Wasteland'.

The results reflect your permissions, try doing the same search but at a regular user, you should not see those threads.
That is what I would expect, my deeper question is about gaining the ability to delete threads from wasteland so they don't show up in any Admin/Moderator searches.

There may be some desire to keep records... eg. if a user was submitting porn or spam... we may want to have that Wasteland content available (even if its infrequently needed).
I wonder if the better idea here is just to add a search checkbox for Admins to "Search Admin-only forums" on/off... if you switched it off, then the Wasteland wouldn't appear in the results.
But if you ever needed to search for something you had previously deleted, you could get to it by searching with it on.

In the meantime you can exclude a specific area from advanced search by selecting all of them then Ctrl + click on it.

In the example below, I'm searching everywhere BUT Administrator Corner.
